Book Review:

Divine Rivals

By Rebecca Ross

This book completely stole my heart from the beginning. It gave me all of the feels in the best possible way.  It somehow managed to balance being cozy and sweet with being intense and tense.

Iris is a reporter vying for a promotion to columnist against her rival, Roman. Meanwhile, her brother is at war and she hasn’t heard from him since he enlisted.  In the evenings she writes letters to her brother on her grandmother’s typewriter and when she places them in her wardrobe they disappear.  One day she receives a letter back and as she continues to correspond with her mysterious new friend, Carver, she begins to develop deeper feelings.

I loved not only the very sweet relationship that develops through the letters, but also that much of the world building comes through the letters as well. The dual perspective between Roman and Iris was beautifully done and their perspectives are woven together in a way that made me fall in love with both of them.

The strength and empowerment of the female characters was inspiring.  Each female character was unique, but also strong-willed in the most wonderful way.

To put it simply, it was divine.
